Ireland
offers employment as we head through 2007. You can visit for a short vacation
and check the papers and make the calls yourself. Or, you can check out the
online job sites. There are roughly 450 job placement agencies in Ireland
and many of them offer online recruiting services.
I've spent hours and hours trawling through
tons of these job sites. A bunch of them are crap - advertising nothing but
themselves. Most have only a half dozen jobs online.
Bunches are designed terribly with vast graphics
and horrendous download times or the barest job description without any further
information. Yuck.
One warning: 90% of all Irish jobs being advertised
online are in Dublin. Dublin has 40% of the country's population, but it absolutely
dominates all placements in Ireland. Dell and Apple and Compaq-Digital are
big employers in Limerick, Cork, and Galway respectively, but the vast majority
of openings are Dublin based.
According to these sites, what most employers
want - before skills, or enthusiasm, or any other quality - is experience.
The more experience the better.
Resumes are called CV's over here from the
Latin "Curriculum Vitae" - The Course of Life.
